How Chili’s Scams You For More Tips
The more you donate to charity, the more tips AND taxes you pay to the restaurant
[Chu News — Life, Consumers’ Rights / Mark Chu] My wife and I drove to Santa Fe, NM for a brief getaway. We visited the downtown plaza and some birding sites. We strongly suggest Randall Davey Audubon Center & Sanctuary, it was such a treat!
And of course, we checked out some restaurants; one has to eat.
There was a Chili’s right across the street from the hotel we stayed. When I first arrived at K-State for my graduate degree, the first restaurant my mentor and some classmates brought me to was Chili’s. So one evening I wanted to try it again for the old time’s sake, and my wife agreed.
To be honest, I hesitate to visit restaurants because of the tipping culture. Back in Taiwan, the owner of the restaurant, NOT the consumers, pays the wages for the workers. We never heard of tipping. Now, not only do we have to tip, but the percentage is getting higher and higher; this tipping culture is crazier and crazier. This is not just my opinion; check out this report that up to 3 quarters of Americans agreed that tipping is out of hand.
